Mutiny Bay Blues

Indulge the berry. Indulge the berry Lover.

Mutiny Bay Blue is one of the local farms where WIGC orders are available for pick-up on Fridays.  However, it’s worth taking a look at the certified organic blueberry farm and the family that owns and operates it in Freeland, Whidbey Island, WA (see About Us).

Mutiny Bay Blues is an organic blueberry farm in Freeland on Whidbey Island, WA. We have been growing Liberty, Duke, Draper, and other mouthwatering varieties since 2011. The farm has 25,000 bushes planted across 20 acres.

The farm stand is open during harvest season from mid-July through August (occasionally the micro climate of Mutiny Bay takes the season into September). We sell berries, gluten-free granola, preserves, honey, dried fruit, blueberry tea, and other merchandise at the stand. You can also find our products at various stores on and off the Island. Local pies made with MBB blueberries are also available all year long.

MBB prides itself on being a family-run farm. Britt is the backbone of the farm. During berry season you can find him on site from dawn to dusk. During the off-season he stays busy thinking up new ways to expand the farm and create an even more sustainable system. Linda is in charge of sales; call her to order your wholesale berries and she will hand-deliver them to you. If you’re lucky enough, she may even show up in our old-school farm truck. Lauren leads website operations and marketing. Kai is hard at work picking and sorting berries during the summer. Savannah is in Alaska saving the world one sled dog at a time, but provides constant feedback on everything blueberry related throughout the year. The Petry family helps manage the farm year-round, from the day-to-day operations to payroll. The farm wouldn’t be what it is today without Ken Petry and his family. During harvest, we employ around 30 people to hand-pick, sort, and package tens of thousands of pounds of berries.

Having grown up picking berries, our family wanted to bring to the island the chance to increase job opportunities and provide a setting for community events. That ranges from providing kids with their first job, giving folks a second job during the summer, and striving toward creating full time careers for people interested in knowing where their food comes from and sharing that with their community.

Farming is hard work, but it is also endlessly rewarding. We love growing high-quality food we can be proud of and enjoy seeing the community respond to it in the same way. We hope to grow berries for years to come and to keep expanding the farm. On top of the annual Bluesberry Festival in July, you should be on the lookout for more events this summer and an increase in product offerings. (From MBB website).
